“His skill in teaching, previous academic background, and experience in organizing a successful subspecialty community radiology practice put him in a unique position to understand the problems YOU face in YOUR daily practice and to introduce solutions that work.”
SHAILENDRA CHOPRA, MD, MRCP, FRCR
Trained in India, Britain and the USA, Dr. Chopra is currently a radiologist at the Lexington Clinic. He is also a voluntary associate professor of Radiology at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY. He is board certified by the American Board of Radiology and is fellowship trained in abdominal imaging. Before joining the Lexington Clinic Dr. Chopra served on the faculty of the Department of Radiology at the University of Texas in San Antonio, leaving as an associate professor. While at the university, Dr. Chopra was nominated teacher of the year.
At the Lexington Clinic he organized the development of a subspecialty community radiology practice. He also increased the efficiency and throughput by streamlining the CT protocols and introducing template reports. He has also established a very successful abdominal MR practice at the Lexington Clinic.
While running a successful subspecialty body imaging practice, Dr. Chopra teaches the residents at the University of Kentucky regularly. He has developed “teaching on the net” programs for the University of Kentucky. Dr. Chopra continues to be an invited visiting professor and has taught in six countries. He holds regular workshops at the annual Abdominal Imaging Course of the Society of Gastrointestinal Radiology. He is also an examiner for the American Board of Radiology and is the committee chairman of the GI section of the Maintenence of Certification Committee of the Board. He is a reviewer for the ACRs CT accreditation program and also a peer reviewer for the papers submitted to the journals AJR and Radiology.
Coming from an academic to community radiology practice, Dr. Chopra realizes that the needs of community radiologists are different from those in the academic practices. The distribution of disease processes is different. The constraints are different. Even the relationship with the referring physicians is different. “And yet, modifying the principles of excellence learned in academics to apply to the community practice brought me unqualified success,” Dr. Chopra said recently. These workshops are designed to interactively share those principles with you, the community radiologist, so that you can apply them to YOUR practice and achieve excellence and increased success.
He is also an examiner for the American Board of Radiology and reviewer for CT accreditation at the American College of Radiology.
