New patients – Please arrive approximately 30 min prior to your appointment to complete all registration forms. If you have copies of your child’s medical record, please bring them to your appointment. The most important document is your child’s immunization record; if you do not have a current copy please make arrangements to get a copy from your previous pediatrician.
Check-ups – Please call to schedule your child’s well child visits at least 4-6 weeks in advance. This is especially important in the summer months when many patients are trying to get in for school and sports physicals.
Appointment times – Patients are seen by appointment only. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time for established patients and 30 minutes prior if you are a new patient.
Weekend appointments – Our physicians see sick patients at our East location from 9:00 am to noon. Receptionists are available starting at 8:00 to start booking appointments for that day. Due to limited appointment times, we regret that we cannot do well child check-ups or routine immunizations on the weekends.
Phone Calls – We answer our phones from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. If you have general questions regarding your child’s healthcare, requests for medication refills or immunization records, please call during regular office hours. For urgent/emergent questions after hours or on the weekends, please call 258-4000 and ask the operator to transfer you to the nurse on call.
Medication Refills – Please give our office at least 2-3 days advance notification of any medication refill requests. By law, medicines for the treatment of ADHD cannot be called into the pharmacies. For these medications you can either come by the office to pick up the prescription or it can be mailed to you. Please allow ample time for those refills.
Cell Phones – Please turn off your cell phones while in the office.
Medical Records – If you need copies of your medical record, please contact the Lexington Clinic’s main medical record department at 258-4837. You will need to fill out a medical release form. If you need only a copy of your child’s immunization record, please call the physician’s office during regular office hours.
Prenatal/Newborns – We encourage all expecting moms new to the practice to come in for a free prenatal consult. It is a good way for you to meet our staff and get a feel for how our practice operates. It gives us a chance to meet with you and discuss any areas of concern you might have. Topics typically discussed include office policies, newborn care, follow-up after the birth, procedures for after-hours calls and emergencies.
Delivery – Our physicians have privileges at Saint Joseph East and Central Baptist Hospitals. Our practice is set up so that our physicians take turns going to the hospital to see newborns. So when your child is born they will be seen by the doctor who is covering newborns that day. When you arrive, the nurses will ask you who will be the baby’s doctor. You can just give them the name of your doctor and say that they work at Lexington Clinic Pediatrics.
Our physicians do not see newborns who are delivered at the University Of Kentucky Hospital. If your child is born at UK they will be seen by one of the staff pediatricians there and then will follow up with us after discharge.
Newborn check-up – Depending on several factors, most newborns are seen 1–7 days after discharge from the hospital. How soon your baby needs to be seen will be depend on whether you’re breast or bottle feeding, any complications with labor/delivery and if there is any jaundice present. The decision on when your baby will need to be seen will be made by the doctor seeing newborns prior to discharge.
Baby’s first visit – The first visit to the doctor can be challenging for new parents. Getting ready and to the office can take more time than you think, so plan ahead. Try to get here at least 20-30 minutes in advance so there is plenty of time for paper work. Our staff makes every effort to get newborns back to exam rooms as quickly as possible so that they are not exposed to other sick children, so it may help to have someone else with you who can stay in the lobby to fill out insurance forms, etc.
Infant Well child checks – For the first year, you may feel like you are always at the doctor’s office. We routinely do well child visits at 2 weeks or 4 weeks, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months and 12 months. It gets a little easier after their first birthday; we will do check-ups at 15 months and 18 months. Starting at age 2 most children are seen yearly. So why all the visits? Babies are very busy their first year–they gain weight and develop new skills sometime seemingly overnight. It’s important for us to make sure they are growing and developing like they should. If not, then we can give advice or make referrals to get them back on track. Most visits also include immunizations.
